Traditions

Friday Night Shabbat & Saturday Night Sing Song

Weekends in camp are the time to enjoy two of our most special camp traditions.

On Friday night, after a traditional shabbat dinner we gather together as a camp to close out the week with camp songs, sermons, and core value awards, where we highlight some of the campers and staff that embody our core values of community, growth, and fun. These awards not only acknowledge their efforts but also inspire others to embrace these values.

On Saturday nights, you’ll find the whole camp singing their hearts out in the Wingate Hall. It’s a night where  memories are made and the spirit of camp truly comes alive. No matter where they go, anyone who has ever been to Wingate carries a piece of Sing Song in their heart, a reminder of special moments and the connections that camp brings.

 Daily Schedule

The fun at camp doesn’t stop when the sun sets! From bonfires, talent shows and casino night, to capture the flag, scavenger hunts, pool parties and so many more, campers look forward to a new activity each night. Our evening activity schedule is packed with loads of great activities for campers to enjoy at the end of the day!

At Wingate we take all measures to make sure that camp is a safe and secure environment. During staff training we make sure to cover all aspects of health and safety, as well as risk management. From food allergies, to sun safety, to ensuring kids are eating and drinking, we cover a long list of topics to ensure that our staff are well prepared. Our staff are trained in all necessary emergency and fire procedures.

INFIRMARY

At Camp Wingate, the safety and well-being of our campers is our top priority. We are proud to have Dr. Earl Rubin, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the Montreal Children's Hospital, as the head of our medical team.

Our infirmary is staffed with warm and mature nurses as well as a full time EMT who provide the care and attention required for campers who may be feeling under the weather or just need some extra TLC. We understand that sickness can happen anywhere, and that’s why we have nurses assigned to follow up with campers who visit the infirmary.

In the unlikely event that a camper needs further attention, we are located just a short drive from St Agathe hospital. The doctor is in direct contact with parents should their child need medical attention beyond any minor cuts and scrapes.

ALLERGIES

While we strive to ensure that our kitchen is nut free, we ask for your cooperation in honouring this rule when sending food up with your child as we have several campers each summer with life threatening nut allergies. Our staff are trained on how to administer an epipen if required in an emergency. We communicate with our kitchen staff about all food allergies to ensure the safety of all campers with allergies.

SAFETY

All bunks are equipped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Fire and emergency drills are practiced regularly during the summer to ensure that all campers and staff are prepared in case of an emergency.

Health & Safety

We are proud to offer a wide selection of healthy and nutritious meals that our campers love! Even the pickiest eaters will find things to eat at all meals. Breakfast and lunch are served family style in the dining hall. If weather allows, dinner is served buffet style outside in the picnic areaSnacks are served in the afternoon and after evening activity. Fruit is always available throughout the day.

Camp Wingate is peanut and nut free.
